God wants us to draw closer unto him and one of the greatest ways is reading His word, hearing his voice. Hearing the voice of God is imperative because it is how He speaks to us so we can understand His will and follow His guidance.
The scripture reads in John 10:27 – “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Isaiah 30:21 – “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Know that hearing the voice of God requires a close relationship with Him.
The scripture reads in” James 1:5 – “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
Here are some steps that may help you hear the voice of the Lord:
1. Spend time in prayer: Prayer is a conversation with God, and it is an opportunity to listen to His voice. Spend some time in prayer each day and ask the Lord to speak to you.
2. Read the Bible: The Bible is the primary way that God speaks to us. Read the Bible regularly and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you are reading.
3. Be still: Sometimes we are so busy and distracted that we can’t hear the voice of the Lord. Take some time each day to be still and quiet before the Lord.
4. Listen: Sometimes we are so focused on talking to God that we forget to listen to what He has to say. Be intentional about listening to the voice of the Lord.
5. Obey: When you hear the voice of the Lord, be obedient to what He is telling you to do. Obedience is a key component of hearing the voice of the Lord.
Remember that hearing the voice of the Lord is a process and necessary to all children of God. Be patient and trust that God will speak to you in His timing and know that, “His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.” -Psalm 119:105. God is with us!
